On-stage performance: valley couple gets engaged on Herberger stage

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - She was duped, taken on a date to her favorite place, the theater. There's more though; the valley woman was then brought on stage under the pretense that she was the winner of a fake drawing for season tickets. What happened next definitely qualifies as romantic.

The couple you see on stage in this video clip is not part of the performance.

"Rachel Ashley Dufresne, will you marry me," said Josh Spericuta.

But they definitely stole the show.

"I was blown out of the water, I had no idea," said Dufresne.

This past weekend during a performance of West Side Story at the Herberger Theater, Josh Spericuta got down on one knee and in front of the entire audience professed his love to Rachel Dufresne and proposed marriage.

"I e-mailed the Herberger Theater, and I asked them if it was even possible, they got me in contact with the director of the show; his name is Bob Copper, and he helped out with everything. He got it all arranged and setup for us," said Josh Espericuta.

Rachel and Josh were in luck; it turns out the director of the Valley Youth Theater is a hopeless romantic who just celebrated his 25th wedding anniversary.

But why West Side Story? It turns out Rachel was a theater major in college and performed in the play before she graduated last year.
